How to get the best from your move to Richmond Care Home
It is unsurprising that many new residents feel daunted by a move to a care home.
But life in a care home can be just as fulfilling as living independently. In fact, sometimes even more so.
When someone moves to Richmond Care Home in Shirebrook, we do all we can to create a home-from-home experience. We ensure that we are ready with help and advice to ensure that every new resident gets the best from their care home move.
Getting familiar with Richmond Care Home
As with every house move, packing your possessions, and parting with some of them, can be stressful.
Residents are encouraged to bring their own furniture and keepsakes to personalise their surroundings and help to make Richmond feel like home.
We know from experience that the comforts of home help our residents settle in quickly.
All bedrooms at Richmond are single rooms with en suite toilet facilities, allowing each resident to have privacy and quiet space.
Each bedroom is fully furnished to a high standard and is equipped with a call-bell system, TV point, easily accessible light switches, and plug sockets. We also have internet access throughout the home.
With your personal possessions and our comfortable facilities, we hope that you will feel at home in no time.
Keeping to your routine
We all have routines that we have become accustomed to. Whether that be the time we eat breakfast or how often we like to take a bath or shower.
The staff at Richmond will work with you to keep your routine as familiar to you as possible.
Mealtimes, for example, are moveable at Richmond. We keep to an approximate timetable for breakfast, morning coffee, lunch, tea, and supper. But anyone wishing to eat later or earlier can be accommodated.
Snacks and drinks are provided at any time of day or night and an alternative to the main menu is always available. We will work with you to ensure that your routine really is as home-from-home as possible.
Staying active at Richmond
For those residents who have led a busy life of physical and mental activities in the past, the thought of giving up these activities can be unsettling.
We have a busy schedule of activities at Richmond. This includes arts, crafts, baking, letter writing, music, keep fit, and pampering sessions.
Our activities team always considers an individual’s abilities and interests when planning an activity. While we encourage interaction, we respect that some residents may not wish or be able to participate in our activities, so there is never any pressure.
We frequently hold seasonal events and celebrate special occasions. We organise outings into Shirebrook and the surrounding areas, and we regularly meet with other care homes to encourage new friendships
We respect each resident’s right to make and maintain friendships and pursue hobbies, interests, and leisure activities.
