A Richmond Care Home Christmas: how to host a Covid-friendly Christmas
A Richmond Care Home Christmas is a festive, safe, and inclusive experience, with our experienced staff creating seasonal magic for all our residents. In this blog post, we share how we celebrate Christmas in our care home in Shirebrook, and highlight how both safety and inclusivity are at the heart of our planning - more so than ever whilst we ensure Covid-safe compliance into 2021.
A Care Home Christmas – Keeping in Touch
In 2020 we have risen creatively to the challenge of keeping our Richmond care home residents in touch with their friends, family, and the local community. Whilst usually some residents would be able to visit their family, this year our focus is on ensuring Covid-safe interaction - and making sure there is plenty of it!
We have supported residents to write and send Christmas cards, and encouraged friends and relatives to do the same - with all incoming cards and presents spending time in quarantine before being delivered to our residents. We've also had an early visit from Father Christmas to Richmond care home this Christmas, much to our residents' delight.
We have enabled friends and family to keep in touch through our computer portal, bringing smiles to faces all round as Christmas approaches. We've also been thrilled to have the support of local schools and churches in Shirebrook, who have delivered virtual carol services and Christmas cards to keep the Christmas spirit alive. Whilst government regulations allow, we have also welcomed friends and family to our Covid-safe visiting pod, enabling our residents to catch up with their loved ones in person.

Our activities coordinators have gone the extra mile this year to ensure that Christmas remains the most wonderful time of year for our Richmond care home residents. We have been entertaining residents with Covid-friendly festive-themed activities, including:

A Care Home Christmas – Person-Centred Care
We pride ourselves on delivering dignified bespoke care to each of our residents at our care home in Shirebrook, creating and following an individual care plan for every person living with us. We love to learn how our residents used to celebrate Christmas, and as part of our Christmas advent calendar this year we have learned even more about each resident's favourite winter pastimes. This has helped us ensure our seasonal plans fit in with everyone's needs in terms of activities, menus, and faiths. We understand that not everyone will want to celebrate Christmas, and for others, it may be a difficult time of year, so we take great comfort in knowing that we support every resident individually with their needs and desires at all times of the year. We love sharing our updates with friends of Richmond Care Home online and feeling the warmth and love in our sociable online community.
